March 1, 2002 will be National Self-Injury Awareness Day, and the time to sign up is now.
We've started getting ready and have a great group of people working on media, event planning, target site selection, and documents committees. We've got several state and regional coordinators, but some states aren't covered yet. The NSIAD email list is up and running and committees are forming quickly.
NSIAD is a grassroots education and awareness effort. On March 1, 2002, people all over the world will deliver (via mail or in person) fact sheets, brochures, and information packets to schools, hospitals, mental-health centers, crisis lines, community organizations, and any place where there's a need for accurate information about self-injury. You can be anonymous or use your own name; you can mail packets or just hand-carry them to your targets. Some people arrange talks at their universities and get press releases out to the local media.
Be sure to drop in on the National Self-Injury Awareness Day Web Board, too.
